The One Who Left

(The beauty of time)

We sat underneath the bright chandelier, giggling like a child in the presence of his favorite pet.

Our world seemed perfect. The sun shone brightly, the leaves were greener, and the birds flew in the sky.

It was all calm and ordered, but like a tornado, time erupted and blew away the laughter and our once calm paradise came crashing down before our glaring eyes.

The world became blank and it echoed like a deserted island, and the rubbles of a shattered world stared blankly at our troubled soul.

I stood in disbelief as her breath slowly slipped away like a child on an oily floor. Her laughter faded away, ushering in its adversary- emptiness, and the once joyful face was now besieged with gloom, as tears gushed out of her eyes like a broken pipeline of water.

But a moment ago, life was colorful, peaceful and blissful.

A moment ago, we had hopes, aspirations, and the luxury of dreams.

Just a while ago, we had plans for the days and months to come.

A moment ago, life made us believe we had the luxury of time, and time, on the other hand, seems endearing and loving towards us. But now, here I am, with the ghost of our dreams, and the ashes of our hopes, as life slowly slips away from her and leaving her cold and lifeless.

Just a little while ago, we had the audacity of believing that we were in control of time.

A moment ago, the thought of mortality left a sour taste in our mouths and one could even call it a party pooper.

Oh, but a little moment ago, time befriended us and offered us the luxury of thinking, fantasizing, and planning for the future.

A moment ago, we lived in the assumption that if we closed our eyes to sleep, we would surely wake up when the alarm rang. We were led to believe that if we went out of the house, then we would surely return whenever we wanted. We allowed ourselves to believe, that if we walked into a hospital, then we would walk out alive. We came to believe that if we ate, then it was the duty of the food to digest because that is just the way it is.

A moment ago, we were sure that we were guaranteed the next moment.

But here, we are, like wounded soldiers on the battlefield, surrounded by a flock of corpses of colleagues with no idea of what to do next.

Here we are, shocked beyond comprehension, startled like a Roman statute, and confused like a Regency bride on her wedding night.

Time led us on, and left us stranded, in what looked like a desert- devoid of human contact, necessities, and a map to get out of it.

Oh, time, where is thy sting!
